We are a network devoted to prayer for climate healing.
We are answering the plea of Pope Francis I in his Apostolic Exhortation “Laudate Deum to all People of Goodwill on the Climate Crisis” on October 4th, 2023 to address the climate crisis in a loving, hopeful, and yet determined way consistent with the teachings of our Catholic faith.
Pope Leo XIV has carried this message forward. He instituted a Holy Mass for the Care for Creation at which he urged the faithful to “pray for the conversion of the many people, inside and outside the Church, who do not yet recognize the urgent need to care for our common home.” He presided at the “Raising Hope for Climate Justice Conference” at the Vatican.
Our vision is that we can unite in an immediate, clear, and simple way to address the climate crisis in prayer with the love, the hope, the determination, the faith, the urgency, and the scale that it requires. We invite all people to join us in solidarity. We are entirely a volunteer organization and will not ask you for money.
By joining you are showing that an individual (no personal information is shared) in your zip code area, parish, group or organization is praying for the healing of the climate crisis. With this simple step, you are taking action, inspiring others, and helping us all to overcome the many feelings that can prevent us from responding to the crisis in faith. By joining you can connect more easily with others both locally and beyond to spread this solidarity in prayer for healing the climate crisis. Please read the Description page for more details.
After you join, activate your membership via email, and login you will be directed to the members page to access resources and tools for prayers, possible next steps, and connections including our discussion groups. Also consider asking your parish, religious community, care creation team, Laudato Si’ circle, or other organization or group to join.
Before you dismiss prayer as something for the pious or for the inactive, please consider this. We are at prayer when we express ourselves sincerely in the awareness of the presence of Our Creator. We are at prayer when we rejoice, weep, rage, build, create, care, do, enjoy, live, regret, give thanks in awareness of the presence of Our Creator who is all loving, all good, and all truthful. In this way we open ourselves to transformation to be in right relationship with Our Creator, our community, ourselves, and all creation. Prayer is not a presumption of wish fulfillment or of bypassing causality in the world.
St. Therese of Lisieux captures the spirit of prayer: “For me, prayer is a surge of the heart; it is a simple look turned toward heaven, it is a cry of recognition and of love, embracing both trial and joy.” (Quoted here)
